Be Thankful For What You Have-TRENTA

This shall be my 30th post for the 2 years that I have been writing and have been having this blog of mine. Anyway, on to my next topic.

The country just survived through another super typhoon this past week and thankfully, Manila was not badly damaged as well as Laguna. The main province which was badly affected by super typhoon Juan (international name: Megi) was Isabela. Everything as in everything was destroyed by this typhoon in Isabela. Agriculture, homes, buildings were terribly damaged as the strong winds dominated over the whole province as the storm was at its peak.


Let's go to the other side of the Earth. Presently, a Cholera outbreak is being experienced in Haiti and around 196 people have already been killed while thousands of people are hospitalised. Cholera causes severe dehydration, diarrhea, acute fever and vomiting. The source of the outbreak was said to be from people who drank infected water from the Artibonite river.


Most of the time we take for granted the little things that we have in our lives. We usually prioritize our wants over our needs since we believe that these are the more important things in life. Despite all of these, we should bear in mind that there is another person in this world which has bigger problems than the ones that we experience right now. Also, the problems we have were given to us by God since it is something we need in order to grow as an individual. The degree of difficulty of our struggles in life is very much in our capacity to handle since I believe that Jesus wouldn't give us something that we could not handle.

If you think that a problem of yours is too hard to handle, go to God for guidance. He will always be there to listen. Just remember to have an open heart and surrender yourself fully if you really want His guidance.

I missed blogging.

I have just recently updated my blog with a new post just yesterday after keeping it stagnant for about a whole year. The last post I made before the one I made yesterday was about the Typhoon Ondoy which was very well known to us at this same month exactly a year ago.

I find it interesting because as I write this new post, there is an incoming typhoon once again which has been compared to the strength that Ondoy had a year ago. Typhoon Juan, as it is named, is most likely to hit Philippine land tomorrow morning. It is currently going west at a speed of 22kph and will hit the province of Cagayan the hardest.

A lot of things has happened through the past year. I didn't stop playing sports in Zobel after the UAAP season. In fact, I even went back to my first love which was football. I got to play in the Alaska Cup one last time for Zobel as I have done before during my elementary days. It was quite a nostalgic experience as I got to reminisce and experience once again how it is to be a footballer. My team mates were not entirely different since most of them were my team mates already back then but the players I grew up with and spent more time with were gone already since they have already graduated since most of them were about a year or two older than I was.

I got into a relationship after my short stint in Zobel football. It was the first relationship I got into after my first one. It lasted for about a decent number of months but not everything turns out as planned.

I'll try to share more of my thoughts on life as I have on my previous posts but I just want to keep this post about how I am now. I'll try to write more posts this sembreak since I'll be at home relaxing most of the time. :)

Anyway, I am now a freshman at the University of the Philippines at Los Banos currently taking up Veterinary Medicine. It is a grueling 6 year course which is composed of 2 years of pre-veterinary studies and 4 years of proper veterinary education. I didn't get to experience the genuine UP educational experience since the Large Lecture Class Policy(LLCP) has already been implemented during my first semester in UP. A lot of chaos has been going on in campus regarding this issue and I'll get to see how events unfold as I extend my stay in UP. Either way, I still get to absorb the true privilege of UP education despite the large number of classmates I have in every class. I'm guessing that it will need a lot of getting used to as UPLB experiences this LLCP.

A list of things that I have learned so far in UP

Here are some of the few things that I have pondered upon after finishing my first semester as a UP student.

1. The use of po and opo

Back in Zobel, kuya/ate/sir/miss/tito/tita/and even bro was enough for us to address the elderly when we talk to them. The use of po and opo wasn't really reiterated since most of the students do not use them often upon talking to older people. Anyway, as I began my student life in UP, I started noticing my batchmates using the words po and opo towards older people. Yes, saying those words to people 10 years older and above than you is a given but I noticed that some of them use it towards our upperclassmen and even to me!

Now, I get to practice saying po and opo again and sometimes, I get the feeling that I give too much respect to some older people that I was sort of close to already. Anyway, more respect is better than less respect right?

2. It's back to zero

It definitely is a greater world when compared to the little happy world I came from called "high school" just a couple of months ago. Living the college life, especially in UP, is definitely a challenge for every individual since most people usually start from scratch upon entering the university. Despite the amount of success that an individual has garnered throughout his or her high school life, it would be a mere needle in a haystack situation since not many people know you or know where you came from not unless people have talked to you and asked you about your personal information or if you will be lucky, have heard of you in the past.

Another interesting piece that I have experienced would be the lack of knowledge of people about what or where my high school is. Coming from Zobel, I didn't really expect much of the people to know about De La Salle Zobel since the most popular La Salle high school would be La Salle Greenhills. Furthermore, most UP students come from outside the Metro Manila area giving it a more slim chance of knowing about Zobel since some of the people in NCR themselves don't know what or where Zobel is.

By the way, I'm not commenting on this to brag about my school. It's just something that me and my batchmates who went to UP saw as an interesting topic. It's just something that we share among one another to check on how we are as UP students coming from Zobel. :)

3. SPEAKING good english doesn't assure you of breezing through english class (I'm not even sure if the structure of the title of this post is written correctly.)

At the beginning of the semester, I took my English 1 class for granted. I thought to myself that this was going to be an easy class since I believed that I already knew the basics of grammar since everything was being tackled year in and year out during elementary and high school. BUT I WAS DAMN WRONG.

The lesson I found really difficult to bear with was the one on Passive and Active voice. I found it really really confusing and nothing made sense to me.

4. Study.

You will never pass college without studying. Enough said.
